The launch of the second Transformers film ‘Revenge of the fallen’ is upon us, starring Shia Lebeouf (Sam Witwicky) and Megan Fox (Mikaela Banes) and featuring a cast of computer-generated Autobots and Decepticons, which are giant transforming robots / machines.
The Decepticons did attempt, in the original film, to take control of the earth but the valiant efforts of  Sam and Mikaela, with the help of the Autobots, prevented them from doing so. We presume that the Decepticons have come back for a second try, having seen some of the film trailers.

Well, all I can say is that they are too late.

The Styrobots are HERE !

So who are these Styrobots and what are their intentions: World domination, political upheaval or do they seek an artistic haven?

The tyrant artist behind these creations is Michael A. Salter, an associate professor of digital arts at the University of Oregon since 2005, who has been building these fabulous sculptures for over 5 years, each one growing in size to suit the available exhibition space. Using discarded packaging from household electrical items and glue, the Styrobots have certainly grabbed people’s attention from San Francisco to Brussels. Not really world domination, but more like world appreciation for this unusual art form. Sadly though, Salter’s unique creations are usually destroyed because no one has bought one yet or figured out how to get one through a gallery door, even if they wanted to make a purchase. Then again, they could be waiting, waiting for the moment when they attack, housed in galleries around the world waiting for the signal. Transformers beware.

We have 5 Transformer signs to give away to people who leave a comment giving a reason why a Styrobot might be better than a Transformer.

The signs are the same as the top black on white sign in the top image, they are 1.2m long (4′) x 0.2m (8″). Good luck.

Damn. Caught out… I didn’t read the entire post!!! Ha ha. Ok…

I believe in the new film, they resurrect Megatron from the bottom of the ocean. Alot of work to bring him back to the surface as he’s soooo heavy. Wouldn’t it be easier if he was made of styrofoam and he just floated back up! :D

Who’s gonna keep your precious cargo safer – a big hulking chunk of metal with sharp edges, clunky sides and dangerous angles or a Styrobot, protecting Earth and your package all at once. Even better they transform into a variety of protective shields around practically any and every package ensuring at all times that you and your loved ones are secure!!

A Styrobot is because it can render any foe useless via the deployment of its secret weapon – “the horrible stretchy squeeky sound that styrofoam makes when bent” Noone can withstand it.

A Styrobot doesn’t need to worry about jet engines or propulsion in order to fly. It just needs to jump in front of a light breeze and it will take off!

Styrobots are better because we can safely construct them without having to worry about them trying to take over the world. They can be easilly stopped with a can of spray paint or a destructive 5 year old.

Styrobots are resistant to oils, acids, alkalies and alcohol.

    Therefore…
Styrobots will never get drunk like Hancock which is helpful.

Styrobots can fling acid into the Decepticons eyes (eg. theme tune “acid in enemies eye…”) which is better than Transformers who are just “more than meets the eye”.

Styrobots can oil their bottoms and slide along the ground rather than the Transformers who just jump around and break things.

Styrobots are the way to go for humanity.

    Hi Ian

    Thanks for the comment.
Your aerosol toting infant has won you a Transformer sign. I know a destructive 5 year is unstoppable !

    Hi Karen,

    Thank you for your comments.

For your sober, acid throwing ( I thought Styrobots were passive) and greasy bottomed observations you deserve a Transformer sign.

We have really enjoyed reading and laughing at some of the comments made so far.
If you think you can add something better, please do and we will see if we have to dismantle a styrobot to make another few signs.

The Transformers sign is very cool. Now if only you could do a cut out of Megan Fox you’d make my day :)
