Making Love… an annual event

- Posted in Polystyrene Uses, Uncategorized by Fran

It’s the time of year when our thoughts and actions turn to Love and all things romantic. Valentines day is fast approaching and for some of you lucky people, you might be on the receiving-end of a lovely box of gourmet chocolates, a handmade card or even that long-awaited diamond ring. Others may be planning the opportunity to pop the question: “Will you marry me?”, or be surprised by someone mysterious who declares “I love you” .

There will be others, however, that are going to receive something a little different, like a giant love sign, a big velvety heart or a golden cupid from a  friend or a secret admirer who are taking a quirky approach with the gifts that they send, rather than using traditional red roses. We know, as we are busy glittering, painting and flocking these gifts for the February 14th deadline.
On this day, the world is united briefly in the giving and receiving the gifts of Love, romance and passion which span the boundaries between rich and poor, young and old, with emotions that are often expressed in modest or extrovert ways. This is also a day when people give to others by contributing to fund-raising events. One of the many  Valentines Balls being held around the country is raising funds to support Drogheda ABACAS School for Children with Autism. It is the 6th annual event, to be held at City North Hotel, Drogheda, Co Louth, with special guests Brian Ormond, Pippa O’Connor and Lorraine Keane.
It’s a pity that the energy and passion displayed on this day couldn’t be harnessed… but maybe it’s safer that it isn’t – because if my wife receives another polystyrene heart, styrofoam cupid or Valentine sign, I think that a February hospital visit may turn into an annual event.
