Irish Blog Awards “The Winners”

Blacknights Best Business Blog Trophy

Blacknights Best Business Blog Trophy

From where I was sat, I could see the winners.
Yes, there were the ones lucky enough to win an Award, but we were all winners, as it was a fantastic event.
It was the first Blog Awards that I had attended, so I didn’t know what to expect as I only knew a handful of people before going to Cork. I read many blog posts and had an idea of the personalities, but they didn’t know me, other than the fact that I had produced the “W’s” for the Irish Web Awards. So, I knew going to Cork was going to be interesting. It was.

The Cork International Airport Hotel was a superb venue – it’s  quirky, stylish, comfortable and friendly, a bit like the crowd that was in attendance. I have give thanks to Carmel, the manager in charge of the event, who was very helpful even though she hates the sound that polystyrene makes and saw the potential for a polystyrene snow storm, which luckily didn’t materialise.
Some of the people I met included Damien Mulley, the event maestro, who was relaxed, calm and looked totally unflustered.  He could have been suffering from the “Duck syndrome”:  Calm and collected on the surface but paddling like the devil underneath. Somehow I don’t think so.
Ryan, who helped set up a backdrop and a Blog Awards sign, that I had made in foam, and who later received an award for Best Photo Blog.  George, from Blacknight, who was absolutely hopeless at keeping the horses in the corral. Brendan, disappointed to be the only insurance man there (not really). The Blogs had to have been better than any insurance seminar. Darragh, for being welcoming, encouraging and acting as a personal photographer for me. Grannymar who, I think, I promised I would make a Styrofoam toy-boy for! ! A conversation with Gabriela, who explained her fondness for our Irish weather(?), and Val who has given me a cool recipe to try out on Pancake Tuesday.
Thanks to everyone else that I spoke to. I can’t list you all, as this post could be as long as an Oscar acceptance speech. To those I didn’t get to talk with, there’s always next year! That includes Rick, who I would have given his foam name to, but I didn’t realise that polystyrene would make me that popular.

(It doesn’t really, I just thought it would be a good tagline to finish the post).

For those of you that have an image and a caption of your speech bubble please link to this blog and we will pick a winner.

Fran, as I said the morning after, you are a Legend! The props really made the night and were great fun!

I have no idea if you remember any of the drunken conversation we had, but I’m George from Blacknight’s wife. Hubbie is currently coming up with had plans for fibreglass covered garden furniture and other items, so no doubt you’ll be hearing from him soon!

    Roll on next year!

    Thank you for your comments.
@elly. I do remember you, you made a lasting impression. The problem we are going to have is to come up with something unique for the next bash…….. thinking caps on. There is a white glassfibre “bubble chair” on the home page, click the “Why use foam tab” to see it. It may give you & George a few ideas.

@Grannymar. It was a pleasure talking with you and hope to see you when I deliver the toy-boy. Do you want in the shape of Brad Pitt or Podge & Rodge?
